Chiricahua National Monument is where this vast expanse of hoodoo rock is found. Chiricahua is the Apache word for "standing rocks." We see here that the ancient tuff (compressed volcanic ash) rocks covered with lichens, the juniper trees, the desert plain, and the Dragoon Mts. in the background, can all be properly exposed while at the same time, the lights of Sunsites, AZ shine brightly near the top of the image. It is juxtapositions like this, impossible to photograph in daylight, which can make moonlight photography so rewarding. This picture took just under 5 minutes to expose. |
